Maduranthakam

It is a small town located in kanchipuram district.this town is famous for its artificial  Maduranthakam lake which was built by chola king uttam chola in 10 century A,D.this lake is second only to lake Verranam in size thus second largest lake in tamil nadu.this town is also famous for its rice mills and for vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary which is situated nearby.temple dedicated to hindu god rama known Eri-Katha Ramar Temple is also located in the town of Madurantakam.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park

Also known as Vandalur Zoo ,it is largest zoological garden in india.it was originally set up in the year 1855 by Edward Green Balfour, the then director of the Government Central Museum at Madras and officialy opened 1985 at its current location,  it is located in the town of vandalur in kancipuram district just outside the city of chennai.it spreads over an area of 1490 acre(602 hectares) including a 92.45-hectare (228.4-acre) rescue and rehabilitation centre. The zoo houses 2,553 species of flora and fauna. As of 2012 the park houses around 1,500 wild species, including 46 endangered species, in its 160 enclosures.As of 2010, there were about 47 species of mammals, 63 species of birds,31 species of reptiles, 5 species of amphibians, 25 species of fishes, and 10 species of insects in the park.this zoo also houses a forest museum that has information about plants and minerals .

Chennai Trade Centre

 

Chennai Trade Centre is a permanent exhibition complex spreading over an area of 25.48 acres it was built to facilitate Trade and Business Conventions, Exhibitions fairs and develop tourism.it is located in the town of nandambakkam in kanchipuram district.

Rajiv Gandhi Memorial

this place is very infamous history as it is the site where former prime miniter of india rajiv gandhi was killed in suicide bombing in the year 1991.The blast site is surrounded by seven pilliars and A stone mural marks the spot of his death.

Vedanthangal bird sanctuary

 

located in the district kanchipuram just 30 km from the town of kanchipuram Vedanthangal is the oldest water bird sanctuary in the country which covers an area of 75 acre(30 hectares) it was originally setup in year 1936 when it was officially recognized as a sanctuary.In the government order dated 8 July 1988, the area was declared as ‘Vedanthangal Lake Bird Sanctuary’, under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.More than 40,000 birds (including 26 rare species), from various parts of the world visit the sanctuaryduring the migratory season every yearBest time to visit this sanctuary is from Novemberto March. During this time, birds are seen busy building and maintaining their nests.Migratory birds like Herons, Egrets, White Ibis, Spoonbills, Swans and Grey Wagtails visit and breed here during the season.

Kalpakkam

 

established in 1971 it is a small town in the district kanchipuram situated on the Coromandel Coast.it is mainly famous for its nuclear power plant which was started in the year 1980.Kalpakkam is also very close to Mamallapuram – one of the famous tourist destinations in tamil nadu.

Kishkinta theme park

opened up in the year 1995 Kishkinta theme park spreads over an area of 120 acres with scenic landscapes, fountains etc. it also have various entertaining things like pools,water rides,roller coasters, toy trains. it is located some 35 km away from the town of kanchipuram

Mudaliarkuppam

 

developed by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation on the Odiyur lake back waters.Mudaliarkuppam Boat House , is a water sport facility.it is also known as Raindrop Boat House.maintained and operated by the TTDC, is 90 kms from the city of Chennai and30 kms South of Mamallapuram on the East Coast Road. This boat house has varieties of boats, water scooters,speed boats to suit the taste of the visitors.It has rowing, cruising, speed boating, waters cooting and kayaking facilities.Boating trip is also arranged to the nearest beach island inthe Odiyur Lake. Mudaliarkuppam backwaters habitat consisting of coastal water mudflats, sand banks and salt pansis is famous for wadind birds and migratory ducks .Hundreds of greater flamingos can be spotted here throughout the year.

Sadras

 

located on the Coromandel coastline in kanchipuram district, 65 km from the town of kanchipuram ,sardas is a lovely seaside town. in the year 1648, the Dutch began a factory at Sadras and Soon a fort was built around the factory .Inside the fort is an inner wall and to one side is an old Dutch cemetery. The 19 graves here date between 1670 and 1790. The fortress was raided by the British in 1818 and is now now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Mamallapuram

 

the historic town  of Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram was established by the pallava dynasty in 6-7 century A.D.Mamallapuram was very important and busy seaport during 7 century A.D.The Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.the architecture in mamallapuram is a fine example of dravidian architectural style.The Pallava King Narasimha Varman I , was a great wrestler with the title MAMALLAN, hence it was named MAMALLAPURAM. Sculpture and Art college, Sculpture Workshops, Handicrafts, long and beautiful sea shore etc. in this coastal town  attracts millions of tourist throughout the year.it is located some 65 km away from the city of kanchipuram.

Kanchi Kudil

It is located at Sangeetha Vidwan Nainar Pillai Street (Old Putheri Street) Kancheepuram. Kanchi Kudil was born of a desire to turn nearly 100 year old ancestral house into a place of tourist interest. While temples and monuments index the cultural life of a city, the real soul of a place is to be found in its people and their homes. The Tourist get a feel of the classical living of life in a historic place like Kancheepuram. Craft exhibition and live demo by artisans are arranged during peak tour seasons to attract overseas tourists. To reach the ‘Kanchi Kudil’, you need to take the road opposite to the famous Ekambareeswarar Temple, go to the dead end, turn right and after a few meters you can locate it next to a small temple on the left side of the road.

Shakuntala Jagannathan Museum of Folk Art

Shakuntala Jagannathan Museum of Folk Art is located in a 400 year old heritage house called ‘Brahma Mandiram’ in Kanchipuram, near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. It is located close to Ekambareeswarar Temple. in the museum There are three wall paintings representing three periods in the history of Kanchipuram, from the ancient (300 BC) till the 20th century.Furnitures , Antique Dolls, Ancient Palm Leaves, Musical Instruments, Pooja items, Lamps, Stone Sculptures, Paintings, Traditional Dressing & Make-up Cases, Silk ,Cotton and Handloom men and women’s wear, Jewellery and Indological Books are on display in this museum.

Crocodile Bank

known as Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology ,it isfirst crocodile breeding centre in Asia andthe biggest crocodile sanctuary in India .it covers an area of 8.5 acres (3.4 ha) and As of 2011, the Crocodile bank has a total of 2,483 animals, including 14 species of crocodiles, 10 species of turtles, 3 species of snakes, and 1 species of lizard. it was established in 1976 as Madras Crocodile Bank by herpetologist Romulus Whitaker and his wife Zai Whitaker and now included turtles, lizards and snakes as well.

Muttukadu boat house

It is a watersport zone and a backwater area which was established in 1984 by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC).this facility offers rowing, wind surfing, water skiing, and speedboat riding. it is ideal picnic destination with enticing green back ground and glittering blue sky and sea , with food court facility.Annual Windsurfing regatta is organized in the month of February.
